The OU Baseball Team came out for the fourth year to serve others at Willow Springs Boys Ranch. The team did a service project in the afternoon. Work included weedeating around ponds, and the boys homes, cleared trees, mowing, hauling off trash, setting railroad ties along trails, and cleaning up around some new construction. The Sooners ate dinner with the boys and staff of WSBR out at Jacob's Ladder in the evening. The baseball team and coaching staff ended the day doing some team-building on the ropes course.

I am grateful for all that the OU Baseball Team does for WSBR. Sunny Golloway serves on the board of the ranch and is a close friend of mine. I have known Sunny since he coached at Whittier Elementary in Norman back in the early 90's. WSBR has been blessed to have two OU Baseball players volunteer at the ranch. PJ Sandivol is a former player who has served as a relief house parent with his wife, Jacqi, before moving back to California. This year, Stephan Pourlier has volunteered the entire summer at Willow Springs and Jacob's Ladder doing whatever needed to be done. He also spent one week volunteering to spend some one on one time with a young man at the ranch. I appreciate the impact that the Sooners have on WSBR! Thank you players and coaches for another great day today! I appreciate your help, your hearts, and your character!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of John Kirkpatrick's birth, the Kirkpatrick Family Fund and the Oklahoma Community Foundation are offering the "John Kirkpatrick Centennial Endowment Challenge" to 258 organizations and 75 scholarship programs with endowment funds at the Oklahoma Community Foundation. The potential match is more than $3 million.
This challenge offers a dollar for dollar matching grant program to Willow Springs Boys Ranch up to $5,000.00. Encouraging others to support endowment funds with a challenge match was a hallmark of Mr. Kirkpatrick's philanthropy.
Willow Springs Boys Ranch has the opportunity to grow it's endowment fund by $10,000 with this challenge. The Willow Springs Boys Ranch Fund is currently $36,400. A good portion of this fund was established by the generosity of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund.
The growth of the Willow Springs Boys Ranch Fund will guarantee funds for years to come as we help carry out the mission of serving boys in need of long-term care. Thank you for your consideration in participating in the 'John Kirkpatrick Centennial Endowment Challenge."

Thank you to all of you from Crossings Community Church in OKC who filled the table up with gift cards for outtings, all the kitchen items and appliances, towels, etc. What a blessing! The guys and houseparents will love eatin' meals prepared with all the great new stuff! Thanks for loving on our boys and the Liddell House! We appreciate the difference that you make!

Thank you to all of you from the Kramer-Baker flock from Henderson Hills Baptist Church. You made Christmas a very special time for the boys at the McClendon House. Below are a few pictures from their Christmas celebration. Thank you for making this a special time. "A picture is worth a thousand words", so here goes....

Wonderful friends and family helped make Christmas at the Liddell House a special time for our boys.

Jeff Wood lead us in Christmas carols and reminded us "what live's all about."

Thank you Liddells, Lancasters, Harrisons, Jeff Wood and Tammy Payne for all you did to make Christmas special for our guys. They were quiet and reserved during the party, but when you left, the guys said, "Wow! That was the best! And that guy, Jeff, he's really good!" Thank you guys for all the smiles you brought and the heart you have for the Liddell House.

The McClendon House celebrates Christmas with their guys Friday night. I can't wait to post some pictures. Thank you to all of you from Henderson HIlls Baptist Church who made Christmas a special time for our boys. We talked about the message of Christmas and the gift that God has given to us. What a gift. That message has not been missed by our boys or the ranch. Thank you all for loving on our boys. They see God at work in their lives. They amaze me as I see them pay it forward.

Rick and Marcia brought their house church out to the ranch and threw an amazing Christmas Party for the entire house. The food, desserts, and hospitality was unbelievable! So was the gifts that were given to the house! Gifts replacing worn-out items in the home. Gifts and games for the boys. Gifts that showered our houseparents and their family. Gifts of love and prayers for the ranch.

Rick and Marcia, Valerie, Sarah, Maria, Rebecca, Steve and Donna, Cheryl, Larry and Logan, Emily and Zane, Dena, Peter, Josiah, Micha, and Aleysia, Katrece, Jody, and anyone I may have missed: Thank you for the love that your House Church shown to the McClendon Home!

This fall, Jeannie and I began leading our girls in a short Bible study at dinner. In this study, there was also a message for parents from Pastor Tommy Nelson of Denton Bible Church. Just like the old commercials for cereals, Tommy said that there are Eight Essential Vitamins for a Child: Peace, Time, Truth, Example, Esteem, Acceptance, Affection, and Discipline.
These qualities are essential in a child's life. I also think that each builds on the former as the child matures and develops. These eight qualities are virtues that we strive to impart in the lives of our four children, as well as the boys at the ranch.
This has been a year of growth and transition at the ranch. WSBR has had two boys graduate. Both are working. Both are learning to live on their own. One resides in the Nichols Graduate House where he is working, going to his second year at Gordon Cooper Technical School, volunteers at Faith Works of the Inner City, and mentors a younger boy at the ranch. WSBR has taken three new boys this fall. We have been blessed with excellent house-parents who pour their lives into these boys.
This has also been a year where three of our boys have had to deal with the death of a parent in their life. Though not always on a conscious level, they too are experiencing the need and importance of these eight vitamins in their lives. It is in times like this where we see the importance of our mission. We strive to provide a loving structured environment as we "train up" (Proverbs 22:6) these boys to become healthy young men. The past nine years have shown the power of your partnership as we invest in young men.
You receive the post because you have some level of connection to the ranch either through volunteering, sending cards and gifts to the boys, providing clothes, medical care, helping with boys' scholarships, investing in capital campaigns, or are faithfully committed to praying for our boys and our staff. Thank you for your continued support to this mission. You are the reason that WSBR "happens" everyday!
Words cannot adequately convey the gratitude that I have for you and the difference that you make in lives at the ranch. As Derin Carr, WSBR Program Director has repeatedly said, "God does not need me to accomplish His work at Willow Springs Boys Ranch. However, I am thankful that He continues to let me serve in this role." That is my sentiment as well! It is amazing to look back each year and see the growth in our boys' lives and our program. All these things occur through God working through friends like you. If you have not been out for a visit lately, please give me a call. I would love to drink a cup of coffee with you and let you see firsthand the impact that you have at Willow Springs. Thanks again to all of you who help make WSBR and JL Camps happen for kids everyday!

Sunny Golloway, OU Head Baseball Coach and WSBR Board Member brought his coaching staff and players made their annual trip out to WSBR for an afternoon of community service, dinner, team meeting and team-building.

The 100 degree heat did not slow down the Society of Petroleum Engineers who came today for out for a work day. They cleared an area for a future retreat cabin, cut down trees, and pulled up stumps, did some mowing and weedeat around our ponds. They ended the day cooking out and feeding all our guys on the ranch. Thank you for all your help today! We had a great time and appreciate all your help!
Where has the summer gone? Many are getting in that last summer trip before school begins. WSBR has had a great summer. Hard to believe that boys will be back at school in about week. Football practices also start next week. Football practice at the ranch is quite the event. We have little guys playing in the Chandler Youth Organization, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, junior varsity, and varsity. That's seven football schedules if you are counting.
Two of our boys graduated in May and spent the summer working at Deep Fork Tree Farm in Arcadia, OK. One young man is living at the Nichols Graduate House and will finish up his second year at Gordon Cooper Technical School. He volunteers at Faith Works of the Inner-City. This non-profit was founded largely because of this young man's influence on an Edmond, OK teacher. Our other WSBR graduate will be attending college this fall, studying to become a personal trainer. WSBR is very proud of both of these young men.
With the beginning of the school year, there are many needs at the ranch. A group of families from Henderson HIlls Baptist Church has graciously volunteered to take care of all our school supplies and back-packs. Other needs include: shoes, socks, t-shirts,casual shirts, shorts, and jeans.
If you would like to help meet some of these needs, please contact the ranch ( 405.258.5176). WSBR can give specific sizes and accept donations or gift cards to stores including OLD NAVY, TARGET, WAL MART, KOHLS, JC PENNY, and ACADEMY.
WSBR operates soley on private donations. It is humbling to watch how these needs are continually. Thank you to all of you who help meet these needs everyday. You are truely amazing! Thanks for all you do!

The McClendon House replacement van has arrived! It is a 2007 12-Passenger with 20k miles. The former van was hit and totalled. Thankfully, no boys were in the van and no one was seriously injured.
Thank you to Bob Moore Auto Group and those who helped us upgrade after the accident. What a tremendous blessing! Thanks again to all of you who made this happen.
I had a friend call a few weeks ago asking if the retreat cabin was available over the July 4th holiday. Amazingly it was. He said it wanted to come out and spend some time away with his family. "Oh, and do you have anything that needs to be done on the property while we are there," he asks. He said he was on vacation. When you see what they did below you'll know that they worked their tails off! Let me know if anyone needs a working vacation. Do we have a destination for you!!!!
Arrived Wednesday afternoon. Departed this afternoon at 5p. His family and the people he brought out were a tremendous blessing:
A portable stage was build for the gym, painted, and ready to use.
The remaining fence in front of our bunk cabins was completed.
A blind was built to hide a propane tank at one of our staff houses.
Outside maintanance was done on the outside of our retreat cabin and some overdue spring cleaning inside.
40 acres were finished mowed on the camp property with our new John Deere, and several projects that I did not know about yet.
I never cease to be amazed at the people that join us in this project. Thanks for sharing the same passion for this place! It is these kind of people who make this place happen. We are very grateful for all of you who invest your life and your resources in WSBR and JL Camps!
Concrete sidewalks at the Nichols Graduate House and the bunk cabins are scheduled for Monday. More roads are also scheduled to be graded and graveled. We hope to have a replacement van for the McClendon House by the end of next week.
Thanks to all of you who are helping develop our property and make this a first class place to invest in people. Thanks for making a difference!
What a difference a summer makes! We've had over twice as much rain as this time last year....and lots of green grass screamin' to be mowed.

I just got back on the ranch. Our house father at the McClendon House was taking some of our boys into OKC metro area to spend the weekend on a family visit. Returning home, he was hit head-on in our 15 passenger van by a pickup truck that swerved recklessly into his lane from the other direction. Both vehicles were traveling 35-40mph on impact. Thankfully he is okay. Just sore and banged up. No boys were in the van. The other driver was a young man. At this time, I do not know his status, but don't believe he suffered any serious injuries either. However, his truck appeared to be totaled.
I will get more details tomorrow, but it looks like the ranch van was totaled. The drive-train was laying in the street and the axels were bent. The other party has insurance, but doubt it will cover the cost for a new van.
Pray for recovery of our houseparent and the young man involved in the accident. We are thankful for God's protection, that no boys were in the van at the time of the accident and that no one was seriously injured.
Finally, pray that God will make provision for a new 15-passanger van. We hope to have a rental back on the ranch sometime on Friday. Thanks for your prayers.
This is the 5th year that the Missions Team from Kirk of the HIlls has organized at Work Day at Willow Springs Boys Ranch. In addition to all the work, the Kirk purchased a John Deere Commercial Mower for the ranch!

I'd like to thank these sponsors and all who attended this event. Thank you for your investment and for making a difference in the young men at Willow Springs.
The Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays are a great waypoint on the map as I blaze down the trail of life. This time of year causes me to slow down and take a look around where I am at, where I have come from, and where I am headed. It is amazing to recount all that has happened along our journey at the ranch and camp this past year. At times, I confess, I feel like I am sometimes on this trip alone. Then I look back and can see how God has sent so many people on this journey with me.
“The Lord has supplied all our needs” at the ranch according to “His riches and glory in Heaven.” He has done that with amazing House Parents, and Staff. He has done it with financial donations that have come in at just the right time. He has supplied our needs with so many of you who have showed up rolling up your sleeves and hopping in the trenches with us to keep us out of the ditch and moving up the trail.
We have an amazing group of boys that God is raising up to be men of character. As we come to our eighth year, the ranches’ influence has moved outside the borders of our ranch and into the community. Our guys asked if we could open our Sunday night Ranch Life up to the Chandler High School. Ranch Life is a Young Life-style outreach to students. We have consistently had 30-50 students and adults come to this event. The ranch also has two women’s Bible Studies led by our ladies from the ranch that serves 20-25 women in the community.
WSBR will open up the Nichols Graduate House in the spring of 2007. This house will be home to our graduates who are transitioning into independent living as they further their schooling, begin first full time jobs, become mentored, and become a “Big-Brother” to younger boys on the ranch.
Jacob’s Ladder Camps and Retreats is now approaching it’s sixth year. With the Rob Liddell Memorial Gym’s completion this year we were able to serve 86 groups ranging from youth groups, missions team, Division I athletic groups, men’s and women’s retreats, and a few corporate retreats. JL Camps has also had the opportunity to employ many of the older boys from the ranch. This has been a great opportunity to teach work ethic, responsibility, and leadership.
The growth and out-reach that has occurred this past year is astonishing. It has occurred because we have some very special people on this journey making a lasting impact on young men. Thank you for your commitment and investment in the missions of Willow Springs Boys Ranch and Jacob’s Ladder Camps and Retreats. What a blessing it is to serve with you as we make a difference in people’s lives.
For the second consecutive year OU Head Baseball Coach and WSBR Board Member, Sunny Golloway has brought his coaching staff and the Sooner Baseball Team to WSBR. The players performed community service in the afternoon. Former OU player and WSBR Board Member, Jade Noles, spoke to the team as they ate a meal with the boys from the ranch. Coach Golloway named Team Captains for the 2006-2007 season. The day ended on the High Ropes Course developing leadership and team-work. I was impressed with the character of each player on this team. The same can be said for the coaching staff.
We are grateful for their influence and their investment in the young men at Willow Springs Boys Ranch and our program. It is important for our guys to have strong male role models. The OU Baseball Team had a huge impact on the ranch during their visit. This is an exciting tradition that has been established with them coming to the ranch, naming captains, performing community service, and taking about the importance of character on and off the playing field.
WSBR is preparing for a silent auction that will take place in February of 2007. The event will include dinner and a time to highlight the work of Willow Springs Boys Ranch. WSBR is seeking quality action items for this event. Some of the items include artwork, guided fishing trips, and sports memorabilia.
Proceeds for this event will help further the mission of WSBR. Items donated before December 31 will be able claimed for the 2006 tax year. Please contact the ranch if you have items that you would like to contribute for the silent auction.
Since the beginning of the ranch in 1996, we have been concerned about how our boys would be perceived and received in the community. Our community is amazing. So are the boys the boys that we have the privilege to serve. After eight years of boys, we no longer worry about that perception of "there goes the neighborhood." Parents ask us if their boys can spend time with our boys because of their influence. A person in town told me a few weeks ago that when he asked about the ranch, someone told him that he would not meet a boy from the ranch who was not well-mannered and well-behaved. What a complement to pay our young men!

Thank you for all of you who make these stories happen by investing your prayers, time and resources in this mission. You are the reason WSBR exists.
