DON'T MISS THE MESSAGE

My family went to the Christmas program at Henderson Hills last night. The title was ALL WRAPPED UP. The message struck me. It is a message often missed.

We often miss messages. Even with all the technology, we miss phone calls, voice messages, email, and directions that had we received them, our life would have been so much better. We miss messages because we are often all wrapped up in other things.

I was waiting in the lobby last night for Jeannie as she went back to the car for our tickets. I was in conversation with a friend. She said she tapped me on the shoulder, and said "I have your ticket and I am going on inside with the girls. She said I look right at her, but I never saw her or heard her. Frightening. I spent the next 20 minutes walking all around the area and even to the parking lot looking for her. Even though I was in the building, I almost lost my seat for the program. How often do I do that with God. More often than I would like to admit.

The same is true about the message of Christ. The message is one that we can't afford to miss. How often do we look right at the Message and miss it?

I am use to reading about the Christmas story in Matthew and Luke. I am use to seeing Carolers in the Mall, seeing a Nativity Scene, or hearing the Christmas Message at church. This morning, I ran across it in an unexpected place...in the book of Isaiah. My prayer is that none of us will miss hearing or receiving the Christmas Message this year. Take time to read in Isaiah and discover or be re-reminded why we celebrate Christmas.

Merry Christmas from the Vinsons

Dear Friends and Family,

What a roller coaster ride our country has been on in 2008! Between the economy and the election we may be wondering what is next! I pray that as you celebrate this season of Christmas with your family you would reflect on how big God really is! He is bigger than politicians, he is bigger than your 401(K) and He is bigger than anything this life may throw at you! May you remember the blessings that He has given you this holiday season, here are a few of ours!

Sweet little Murphy is 15 months and has finally decided to walk, talk and get into everything! She is such a joy and has blessed our house so much this year! She still loves her mommy just about more than anything but will branch out to other family members occasionally. She has her own little language that cracks us up and leaves us guessing at what she wants but our home would not be complete without her!

Avery (5) started Pre-K in the fall and loves it! She has become so independent this year and her little mind is absorbing so much. She wants to know how to spell everything and next year may be writing this letter herself! She is making so many new friends and growing into such a compassionate young lady. She constantly is asking for prayer for a little kid that got hurt on the playground that day!

Ellie is 8 and in 2nd grade. She is loving school and has produced such a competitive spirit this year with her studies. She recently read 40 books in one day for a contest in school! Ellie is also our little prayer warrior! She has such a selfless heart and when faced with a challenge immediately goes to her knees for someone in need! She has also become quite the soccer star! Her team took 1st place for the second time this fall.

We are completely convinced that we could not have four children with out Mattie (11). She is the second mother that we could not live without! She dresses, changes, feeds and reads to her little sisters faithfully, many times without being asked. She is becoming such a beautiful young lady and God is growing her into the women He created her to be. It is a joy to watch her learn new things and work through challenges on her own.

Todd is extremely busy with camp, construction, fundraising, house parenting, and anything else that needs to be done around the ranch and camp! I (Jeannie) am constantly amazed at how much he can get done in a day! Even with the challenges of the Ranch and Camp we still love being out here with the boys and the groups that come to camp! God has been so faithful to us in 2008 and we are honored that he chose us to minister along side Him at the Ranch!

God has revealed so much of Himself to me in 2008! I have seen just a glimpse of His love for me! God is still God, regardless of economy, politics, illnesses, family crisis' or anything that might burden us! He is mighty to save and I am learning that more and more everyday! Our prayer for your family and ours this coming year is that we would never stop desiring more of Jesus! We wait expectantly for the New Year because we know that Jesus is there!

Merry Christmas!

We have been doing a series on Sunday Nights at WSBR called Tools for Your Tool Bag. Each week, Derin or I literally give each boy a tool for their tool bags. This tool represents a character quality that will help boys be successful in life. Today's tool will be a set of allen wrenches. They looked at me funny when I bought 16 of them at Lowe's this week. In fact, hardware stores look at us funny every week when we go in to by 16 of something.

Bob Stoops:Ten Years at Oklahoma

Willow Springs Boys Ranch is mentioned in the cover story on Bob Stoops in the Distinctly Oklahoma Magazine. Click on the link to read the article. We are proud to have The Bob Stoops Champions Foundation invest in the mission of WSBR.

There is no quick fix to raising children. There are not often immediate results. However, in the long-term, the investment pays off. There is a national credit crisis because we want things now and don't want to pay until later. There is also a national family crisis. Often, our society parents with a credit card mentality. The funny thing about a credit card is... you pay later and you pay with interest. It is always more cost effective to do things right the first time. I think that I have heard my parents say that once or twice while I was growing up. Unfortunately, the bill has come due and we are paying with interest!

WSBR's mission is the proverb that states that if you train up the child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it. WSBR is committed to paying on the front end the cost of parenting, so that our communities are not paying later with interest and bankrupting our society. The product is responsible leadership by young men, husbands and fathers in our communities and families. Thank you Bob Stoops Champions Foundation for investing on the front end. Oklahoma will appreciate your investment!

4th Annual OU Baseball Service Project at WSBR

The OU Baseball Team came out for the fourth year to serve others at Willow Springs Boys Ranch. The team did a service project in the afternoon. Work included weedeating around ponds, and the boys homes, cleared trees, mowing, hauling off trash, setting railroad ties along trails, and cleaning up around some new construction. The Sooners ate dinner with the boys and staff of WSBR out at Jacob's Ladder in the evening. The baseball team and coaching staff ended the day doing some team-building on the ropes course.

I am grateful for all that the OU Baseball Team does for WSBR. Sunny Golloway serves on the board of the ranch and is a close friend of mine. I have known Sunny since he coached at Whittier Elementary in Norman back in the early 90's. WSBR has been blessed to have two OU Baseball players volunteer at the ranch. PJ Sandivol is a former player who has served as a relief house parent with his wife, Jacqi, before moving back to California. This year, Stephan Pourlier has volunteered the entire summer at Willow Springs and Jacob's Ladder doing whatever needed to be done. He also spent one week volunteering to spend some one on one time with a young man at the ranch. I appreciate the impact that the Sooners have on WSBR! Thank you players and coaches for another great day today! I appreciate your help, your hearts, and your character!

THE KEY TO THE MASTER'S ORDERS

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.
~Matthew 9:38

The key to the missionary problem is in the hand of God, and that key
is prayer not work, that is, not work as the word is popularly
understood to-day because that may mean the evasion of concentration
on God. The key to the missionary problem is not the key of common
sense, nor the medical key, nor the key of civilization or education
or even evangelization. The key is prayer. "Pray ye therefore the
Lord of the harvest." Naturally, prayer is not practical, it is
absurd; we have to realize that prayer is stupid from the ordinary
common-sense point of view.

There are no nations in Jesus Christ's outlook, but the world. How
many of us pray with out respect of persons, and with respect to only
one Person, Jesus Christ? He owns the harvest that is produced by
distress and conviction of sin, and this is the harvest we have to
pray that labourers may be thrust out to reap. We are taken up with
active work while people all round are ripe to harvest, and we do not
reap one of them, but waste our Lord's time in over-energized
activities. Suppose the crisis comes in your father's life, in your
brother's life, are you there as a labourer to reap the harvest for
Jesus Christ? "Oh, but I have a special work to do!" No Christian has
a special work to do. A Christian is called to be Jesus Christ's own,
one who is not above his Master, one who does not dictate to Jesus
Christ what he intends to do. Our Lord calls to no special work: He
calls to Himself. "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest," and He
will engineer circumstances and thrust you out.

You Have Our Attention Lord

The first response to any crisis is prayer; urgent and honest prayer. Before we turn to money managers and governments, let's turn to the Maker of the Universe. ~Max Lucado

You Have Our Attention, Lord
A prayer by Max Lucado - October 2008

Our friends lost their house
The co-worker lost her job
The couple next door lost their retirement
It seems that everyone is losing their footing

This scares us. This bailout with billions.
These rumblings of depression.
These headlines: ominous, thunderous -
"Going Broke!" "Going Down!" "Going Under!" "What's Next?"

What is next?

We're listening. And we're admitting: You were right.

You told us this would happen.
You shot straight about loving stuff and worshipping money.
Greed will break your heart, You warned.
Money will love you and leave you.
Don't put your hope in riches that are so uncertain.

You were right. Money is a fickle lover and we just got dumped.

We were wrong to spend what we didn't have.
Wrong to neglect prayer and ignore the poor.
Wrong to think we ever earned a dime. We didn't. You gave it. And now, tell us Father, are You taking it?

We're listening. And we're praying.
Could you make something good out of this mess?

Of course You can. You always have.
You led slaves out of slavery,
Built temples out of ruins,
Turned stormy waves into a glassy pond and water into sweet wine.
This disorder awaits your order. So do we.

Through Christ,
Amen

RECONCILIATION

     For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

     2 Corinthians 5:21

Sin is a fundamental relationship; it is not wrong doing, it is wrong
being, deliberate and emphatic independence of God. The Christian
religion bases everything on the positive, radical nature of sin.
Other religions deal with sins; the Bible alone deals with sin. The
first thing Jesus Christ faced in men was the heredity of sin, and it
is because we have ignored this in our presentation of the Gospel
that the message of the Gospel has lost its sting and its blasting
power.

The revelation of the Bible is not that Jesus Christ took upon
Himself our fleshly sins, but that He took upon Himself the heredity
of sin which no man can touch. God made His own Son to be sin that He
might make the sinner a saint. All through the Bible it is revealed
that Our Lord bore the sin of the world by identification, not by
sympathy. He deliberately took upon His own shoulders, and bore in
His own Person, the whole massed sin of the human race - "He hath
made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin," and by so doing He put
the whole human race on the basis of Redemption. Jesus Christ
rehabilitated the human race; He put it back to where God designed it
to be, and anyone can enter into union with God on the ground of what
Our Lord has done on the Cross.

A man cannot redeem himself; Redemption is God's "bit," it is
absolutely finished and complete; its reference to individual men is
a question of their individual action. A distinction must always be
made between the revelation of Redemption and the conscious
experience of salvation in a man's life.

THE "GO" OF RELATIONSHIP

"And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain."
Matthew 5:41

The summing up of Our Lord's teaching is that the relationship which
He demands is an impossible one unless He has done a supernatural
work in us. Jesus Christ demands that there be not the slightest
trace of resentment even suppressed in the heart of a disciple when
he meets with tyranny and injustice. No enthusiasm will ever stand
the strain that Jesus Christ will put upon His worker, only one thing
will, and that is a personal relationship to Himself which has gone
through the mill of His spring-cleaning until there is only one
purpose left - I am here for God to send me where He will. Every
other thing may get fogged, but this relationship to Jesus Christ
must never be.

The Sermon on the Mount is not an ideal, it is a statement of what
will happen in me when Jesus Christ has altered my disposition and
put in a disposition like His own. Jesus Christ is the only One Who
can fulfil the Sermon on the Mount.

If we are to be disciples of Jesus, we must he made disciples
supernaturally; as long as we have the dead set purpose of being
disciples we may be sure we are not. "I have chosen you." That is the
way the grace of God begins. It is a constraint we cannot get away
from; we can disobey it, but we cannot generate it. The drawing is
done by the supernatural grace of God, and we never can trace where
His work begins. Our Lord's making of a disciple is supernatural. He
does not build on any natural capacity at all. God does not ask us to
do the things that are easy to us naturally; He only asks us to do
the things we are perfectly fitted to do by His grace, and the cross
will come along that line always.

Jacob's Ladder Work Day

Jacob's Ladder Camps had Chamber of Commerce weather today. A total of 12 guys from 4 different churches partcipated: Henderson Hills Baptist Church, West Moore Community Church, First Presbyterian of Edmond, and Skyline Church of OKC. We also had two guys from Houston here today.

Trim was installed in the gym. 6 hours of mowing on the camp play-field and ropes course areas. Two full loads of tree limbs were pruned and hauled off. Two low ropes course elements got a face lift. All of the sheeting was installed on bunk cabins #5 and #6. The camp looks awesome!!! Also this weekend we had a Father-Son Camp Out from HHBC. Tomorrow First Presbyterian of Edmond has their Confirmation Class come out for a day on the ropes course.Bunk House # 7 became a reality today by a generous gift from Steve Hurst. We will start construction as soon as Bunk House #8 is funded. There are two cabins on a pad. Bunk #5 has been made possible by Cornerstone Surgery Centers, Foundations Health Care, Until All Have Heard Foundation, and MedDevelop. Bunk #6 has been made possible by a generous gift by the Derrick Prentice Family. Bunks #1-4 have been funded by Commercial Brick Corporation.

JL's goal is to have the funds for the remaining 7 bunkhouse cabins funded or pledged by the end of 2008. We are half way there! The purpose of Jacob's Ladder Camps is to help fund the mission of Willow Springs Boys Ranch. JL is also an employment opportunity for the WSBR boys where they can learn work ethic, responsibility, and character development.

Thank you to all you guys who extravagantly gave of your time and resources today on all of these projects! God is a work! And so are so many of you who invest in WSBR and Jacob's Ladder. Thank you for investing your lives in this mission. Words can not express my appreciation. Thank you for the legacy that you are building at Willow Springs Boys Ranch!

Where Have You Placed Your Security?

I was sitting here reading the following Scriptures: Isaiah 55:1-5, Luke 9:1-3, 23-25, as I received an email today from a friend who is on the board to open a girls home in Albania. They are within 25k of having the reserves that the government requires for them to begin serving children. Over the last 12 years, God used finances as a tool in my life. It is a constant reminder of my need for HIM. The U.S. economic climate is being used for those same purposes as well. Our stock portfolios do not hold the same since of security that they once did. They never should have. We place our security in many things. Even in leading this ministry, oftentimes God ranks too low on the list. "It is up to my abilities, my contacts, my hard work." God says that HE shall provide ALL our NEEDS (not wants), according to HIS riches and HIS glory in Heaven. That does not negate my need for good stewardship and commitment to excellence. However, HE is the principle investor and shareholder in my life and this mission. God operates on a different economy. An economy where moth and rust does not destroy. I want to be invested there. That investment in not payed in a dollar amount, but with surrendering my life to Him. I become a Living Sacrifice for God. Living means that I am active and moving at His direction, not my own.

I have trouble being a Living Sacrifice. The problem is, Living Sacrifices often climb off the alter. I wander off and do my own thing. Or do God's thing my own way. God is the One who is at work. He is funding the projects here at WSBR and Albania. It is not natural for me to be concerned for the needs of Albania. I am swimming in daily and monthly needs of our own here at WSBR. But when my focus is on others and God, amazingly our needs are supplied. I got a phone call this morning from a friend that said that God had specifically put WSBR on his mind and he wanted to help. This happened with a 4 color newsletter, a banquet dinner, or a telemarketing campaign. I had never talked to this person about getting involved in what we do at the ranch. It was God prompting him to get involved in what God was already doing.

We are called to be available and obedient to God, for His good works and His glory. I am praying for God to show up. When He does, He gets the credit. When I show up, I tend to take credit for things that I played a very little part in. God is supplying ALL our needs,...here at the ranch and for what He is doing in Albania. All of these events today have been a good reminder of where I play my security.
